Propane and Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Buses Outperform Traditional Fuels

With budget cuts and unstable fuel prices, many school districts and transportation businesses are looking for alternative fuel vehicles and buses for sale in the hopes of reducing overall costs.

The benefits of converting to greener options easily offset the initial investment, especially during the colder winter months.Twitter_bird_logo_2012-2.svg

 Increased Fuel Savings

Gas and diesel prices tend to fluctuate drastically and depend on a number of uncontrollable factors, like crude oil prices and supply levels. However, alternative fuels such as propane, tend to have fairly stable prices that are often below standard fuel prices. In fact, many propane providers offer programs that allow you to lock in the price of fuel over a set amount of time. This allows you to budget for fuel more efficiently and enjoy thousands of dollars worth in fuel savings alone

Reduced Maintenance Costs

Due in large part to the cleaner operation of most alternative fuel vehicles and buses, maintenance costs are greatly reduced, sometimes by as much as 30% to 40% over traditional options. While regular maintenance is still required for optimal operation, fluid and filters are generally less expensive than those designed for diesel engines. Maintenance is also quicker and easier than before, reducing the number of hours needed.

Improved Comfort

One of the drawbacks to using diesel fuel buses, particularly school buses, is how difficult they are to warm up. Alternative fuel buses, on the other hand, quickly warm up and allow passengers and drivers to travel in warmth and comfort. Propane fuel vehicles also have a quieter and smoother operation than traditional buses.

Better, Cheaper Winter Performance

The biggest benefit to investing in alternative fuel vehicles and buses is the reduction of downtime during the coldest winter months. Diesel engines are notorious for being stubborn to start as temperatures drop. In fact, as the weather grows colder, diesel engines often need to hook up to a heater block to ensure that they will operate the following day, costing a company hundreds, if not thousands in electric costs over time.

Propane and other alternative fuel engines start up quickly regardless of the temperature and rapidly reach perfectly warm temperatures inside the cab.
